As the baby boomers retire, they're finally finding the time and money to have the houses they've been dreaming about. And thanks to them, interior designers are looking at a comfortable future. According to the Del Webb Baby Boomer Survey, "36 percent of Boomers will move or plan to move when they become Empty Nesters. When they retire, 55 percent say they will move." With those new homes comes a demand for interior design.
Designs That Will Last
While home interior design is sometimes considered a luxury, Baby Boomers have particular interest in making their homes functional. They are likely to need an expert in order to have a design that anticipates age and illness. In particular, the Bureau of Labor Statistics suggests that the Boomers will be most interested in ergonomics and green design solutions because they can make their homes comfortable and efficient.
While home interior design remains a competitive field, the baby boomer generation is helping create more jobs for design program graduates. If you're looking for a creative, flexible career that offers the stability of a growing industry, consider earning a degree in interior design.
