Ever since Charles Frederick Worth set up his fashion house in Paris, back in the 19th century, fashion design has become big business. When people associated the name Worth with desirable, high fashion, the first true brand in fashion was born.

If you want to follow in the footsteps of fashion design's founding father, and the many big names that have followed, there is no reason why you shouldn't.

One of the wonderful things about the fashion industry is that there is always room for something new and different. Jobs in the fashion industry are available for people with the right credentials and talent.

Could You Be the Next Big Name in Fashion?

There is no single 'right way' to begin a career in the fashion industry. Some famous name designers have, like Charles Frederick Worth, started out without any formal education.

A lucky break, good contacts, financial support and determination can all get you a long way, but the most common and reliable route to jobs in fashion is a fashion design degree.

Get prepared for an exciting design career. At The Art Institutes, you'll receive hands-on training from industry professionals, plus you'll build your portfolio.

Fashion design is a technical discipline as well as a creative art. As a fashion designer, you'll need an eye for color, texture and line, as well as an innovative sense of style. But to put this vision into practice, you'll need the hands-on training you get - and the portfolio you'll develop - at a reputable fashion design school.

There's a great deal to learn before you can start sketching designs, selecting materials and textiles, and anticipating how these will appear when they are turned into three-dimensional pieces of apparel. The skills and techniques you gain from a fashion design degree will give you such training, and will let you turn your creative ideas into real fashion.
