Spring is in the air--but your thick winter blankets, heavy drapes, and worn-out interior designs aren't helping you embrace this invigorating season. Here are some quick, easy, and inexpensive interior decorating tips.
The Sights and Smells of Spring
Don't forget the most fundamental interior decorating tip: let the season guide you. Plan your house's interior design with all your senses in mind.
- Bring the scent of spring indoors with candles, freshly cut flowers, newly potted plants, even incense.
- Let the sun shine: replace your lamps with lower-watt light bulbs, replace window treatments with sheer white curtains, and wash the windows until they shine.
New Rooms for a New Season
Your house's spring interior design should be lighter and brighter than the heavy shades and textures of your winter interior design.
- A great interior decorating tip is to update your art: put away dark oil paintings, and bring out any colorful or pastel pieces.
- Store any heavy flannel blankets you used in winter. Bring out the freshness of the season with crisp linens, colorful covers, or floral designs for your bed.
- Use accent pillows and throws to lighten neutral sofas and chairs. Accessorize your house's interior design with beautiful vases and flowers.
Embrace the Theme
Sometimes, aspiring interior designers will avoid filling their house with a single thematic interior design--and that's usually a good idea. But don't go too far and forget to embrace spring's traditional themes altogether. Simple centerpieces including flowers, eggs, and feathers can still find a place in good interior design.
