Interior design jobs can be a fascinating and rewarding, but how do you get ahead of the pack? Here we give you the outline, all you have to do is color it in!

Good preparation lies at the heart of any decorating task, getting one of those top Interior design jobs is no different. It is no use you papering over the cracks if you are really serious about starting a new career. Not all Interior Designers have enjoyed a formal education by any means, but studying at interior design school could really help get your career off to a flying start.

Licensing is required for those in Interior design jobs in over twenty states and jurisdictions according to the American Society of Interior Designers. In some states, you cannot even call yourself an Interior Designer unless you are licensed.

Sometimes this takes the form of graduating from an accredited interior design school, other states insist on you passing further exams for licensure administered by The National Council for Interior Design Qualification. Make sure that your interior design school is accredited.

Choosing an Interior Design School
There are many Interior design schools ranging from residential to distance learning; there are even some who will send you a 'qualification' on receipt of your credit card number! Once you have identified likely looking accredited Interior design schools check them for a good match before you enroll.
  • Can this interior design school offer you the level of qualification you require?
  • Can you transfer this qualification between states if you think you might relocate?
  • Is it a small friendly school or a large bustling college?
  • Can it offer you the amenities you need for living there?
  • What do past and current students think?
